Panathlon International's action to defend and disseminate the positive values of sport

2013 - SAINT PAUL AND learn more!

The intervention of Maurizio Monego.

Is "St. Paul as patron saint of sportsmen" a consistent proposal with the figure of the apostle and nature of sportsmen? From the use of the sports metaphor which Paul takes up in many passages of his Letters, the statement offers food for thought, leads to the reading of many by the popes addressed messages since Modern Olympic Games birth to date have aimed to bring sport in its radical and meaning dimension, through Pauline lesson. The humanity of sport passes through the reading of symbolic meaning and value of the symbolic approach to sport, considerations on the anthropological value of play and corporeity, on acting responsibility, interpreting the original and fundamental ethics by sport established. The sport turns into mean of interpretation of life and school life through its cultural meaning and its educational and moral value, in an age where the philosophy is returning to the ancient tradition of virtue ethics, a form of normative thinking that focuses on people rather than on the principles or consequences. The transcendence from sport suggested  is perfectly proclaimed by Paul of Tarsus and make him the patron saint of athletes and sportsmen, has redemptive meaning for believers and convinced commitment to universal human values for all men and women who dedicate themselves to this activity with passion and respect.
